BFGOODRICH KO2 TIRE LAUNCH IN BAJA MEXICO

Originally published September 20, 2014 on Extreme 4x4 Nation

BFGoodrich Tires invited a wide variety of automotive writers down to Baja Mexico to test their new KO2 A/T tire in the toughest terrain on the planet to see how the new rubber performed. It was a trip I will never forget. I had the chance to meet and drive with some of the greatest off-road racing legends from around the country. I've never seen such a large variety of terrain in one area. We put those tires through mud, sand, large river rock, gravel, crawled over large wet boulders, and over debris left from a flash flood that happened a few days earlier. We tested these tires in Baja Champion buggies and in stock Ford Raptors. Both rigs did amazing with these new tires. The Ford Raptors proved how well the tires would handle at high speeds on dirt roads and the BC buggies show us what they could do in every kind of terrain. My favorite being a rugged hill climb that only a few made it up (I was one of the few who made it up before RJ Anderson broke an axle). BFGOODRICH KO2 TIRE

The new KO2 A/T tire was a complete redesign. I was extremely impressed with the performance of the tire over every single obstacle and through the many trails but especially impressed with how it did in the mud. By the time we finished wheeling the first day we where covered in so much mud that many of us took showers in our clothes!

The adventure took us nearly 300 miles along routes used during the Baja 500 and 1000.

Some background information on BFGoodrich Tires. Back in 1976 BFG tested the first ever All Terrain tire in the Baja. They wanted to show the world that a tire could be put through the toughest terrain and hold up. It seemed only fitting to unveil their new KO2 A/T tire in the same way. In fact the KO2 A/T tire was first tested in the Baja 1000 in 2013. Not only did it perform extremely well but the Wide Open BC Buggy won 1st place that year! We even had a chance to check out the same tires used in the 2013 Baja 1000 and let me tell you they showed little wear for being put through such a harsh terrain for over a year. In fact our lead vehicle for the two-day, 300-mile off-road excursion was still sporting them.
